The International Seminar of Physical Education, Recreation and Health (SIEFLAS) was first held in
2005. Its initiation meant a dream come true for the Department of Physical Education and Recreation
of the Child Study Institute of the University of Minho, Portugal. Since then, two more seminars
have been held. In 2008, the seminar’s character became more international: For the first time it
was hosted by the "Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná" in Brazil. The event was then
held every year, either in Portugal or abroad. In 2009, University of the Azores was responsible for
organizing the event. One year later, the "Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná" hosted the
seminar. In 2011, the University of Minho was in charge again. It was the first time that the CIEC,
which was only founded in January 2011, was responsible for organizational matters. Finally, the
"Universidade Federal do Maranhão" hosted the seminar in 2012, again in Brazil. In 2013 returns
to its origins, the University of Minho, in 2014 was organised by the ”Universidade Federal de Santa
Catarina”, and in 2015 hosted by the “Instituto Politécnico do Porto” – Superior School of Education.
The two continents, Europe and South America, took advantage of this unique combination of
all editions. In 2016, the seminar will be held in Germany for the very first time – an extraordinary
opportunity for fostering intercultural exchange.
