Presentatio​n
The Specialised Training Course in Special Education, Cognitive and Motor Domain, aims at training professionals with profiles suitable to care for children with special educational needs (SEN) in the cognitive and motor domain, whether in general schools or in private institutions of social solidarity. The primary objective of this course is to train professionals, such as teachers and educators, for the recruitment group of special education - cognitive and motor domain. With this course, students will develop skills in order to identify, evaluate, plan and intervene with students with SEN in the cognitive and motor domain and with their families. Thus, the course has the following objectives: a) facilitate the acquisition, updating and deepening of educational knowledge and skills of students with SEN in the cognitive and motor domain; b) prepare for individual educational intervention, evaluation and programming within the school, family and community contexts; c) provide methods and techniques validated by research, as well as support materials and technologies that enable the development of academic, social and emotional, and behavioural skills of students with SEN in the cognitive and motor domain; d) contribute to improving communication and collaboration skills in an interdisciplinary work context, as well as legal skills for the rights of students with SEN.

Conditions of Admission
Applicants for admission into this course should meet the following conditions: hold a professional qualification for teaching; hold an academic degree, granted for completing a 1st cycle and/or 2nd cycle of studies in Education, Teaching, Psychology, Special Education and Rehabilitation, or related areas, organised according to the principles of the Bologna process by an acceding State; hold a foreign academic degree, recognised as meeting the objectives of the degree in Education, Teaching, Psychology, Special Education and Rehabilitation, or related areas, by the Scientific Council of the Institute of Education. Additionally, holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum vitae that is recognised by the Scientific Council of the Institute of Education as attesting to the capacity to perform this course can also apply.​

Duration: 2 semesters (60 ECTS)
Tuition fees: € 1,375/year, and can be paid in instalments
Schedule: Evening class - Monday to Friday from 18.00 to 21.00
Location: Gualtar Campus, Braga - Portugal

Observations
The course is organised within the context of specialised training (Decree-Law No. 95/97 of 23 April) to train professionals for the recruitment group of special education E1-910, cognitive and motor domain: "Places of special education to support children and youths with severe cognitive problems, with severe motor problems, with severe personality or conduct disorders, with multiple disabilities and to support early childhood intervention" (Decree-Law No. 20/2006, Article 6).
The course is accredited by the Scientific Pedagogical Council of In-service Training for the academic year 2012-2013. Registration of Accreditation - CFEEEDCRCCPFC/CFE - 2710/12.
Students may require a part-time attendance of the course and, if so, tuition fees will be partially paid. Upon application and enrolment, the course units of this course may obtain recognition in terms of curriculum component of the cycle of studies leading to the master's degree in special education, specialisation in specific learning disabilities.
